FAQs

Curious about next steps for working together? I’ve broken down commonly asked questions below. If you have any additional questions, please reach out!

  • I am located in Philadelphia. I offer in person sessions at my office in Fishtown, and I work virtually with clients located throughout PA, NJ and DE.

  • Yes, I offer in-person therapy in Fishtown on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. My office is at 440 E. Girard Avenue, Philadelphia PA 19125.

  • That depends on your insurance plan and whether you have out of network benefits. I am not paneled or “in network” with any insurance companies, so you are responsible for the cost of sessions up front.

Utilizing your Out of Network benefits

Most of my clients utilize what are called “out of network” benefits - depending on your plan, you may be able to receive anywhere from 50-80% of your session fee reimbursed.

    Out of Network Gap Exceptions

If you've struggled to find an in-network provider that meets your needs, you might want to explore a gap exception. This allows your insurance to cover an out-of-network provider at an in-network rate. If granted, you would pay for the services upfront, and your insurance would reimburse you afterward. Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA)

If you have an HSA or FSA, you may wish to explore using your funds for the cost of therapy. Resource to learn more: https://www.goodrx.com/insurance/fsa-hsa/mental-health-expenses

I am able to provide a superbill (a specialized receipt) for you to submit to your insurance each month. Details related to what percentage of sessions is reimbursed, if you have a deductible etc, are all specific to your plan. If you’re hoping to use your benefits, please contact your insurance to clarify before scheduling a consultation.

  • I see clients from 9 am to 4 pm Tuesday through Friday. I’m available for in-person sessions Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and virtual sessions Tuesdays through Fridays.

  • I offer a 15 minute consultation, typically via a HIPAA compliant zoom link, to give us a chance to connect. I’ll ask some questions about what brings you to therapy and what you’re looking for,  share about my approach and how I work, and will answer any questions you may have.

If we both decide it feels like a good fit, we’ll schedule our first appointment. I will send you some paperwork to be completed before our first session via a HIPAA compliant portal. If for some reason I do not feel I am the best therapist for you, I’ll do my best to offer referrals to those that may be a better fit.

  • After briefly checking in about the forms you filled out in the portal, we’ll make space for whatever feels most present in your life.

That can often look like discussing what you’re struggling with, what you’ve tried in the past, what’s worked, what hasn’t, and what you’re hoping will be different in your life through our work together.

Throughout our session I’ll be checking in with you to see how you’re feeling. Rather than just talking about what’s happening, I may ask if we can pause to be with an emotion that’s coming up, or may invite you to check in with what’s happening in your body as you share. While we may touch on symptoms and your history, I’m primarily interested in getting to know you.

One of the tenets of how I practice is the belief that we are all naturally working towards healing. My wish for our first session is that you will leave feeling understood,  supported, and with a sense of hope and relief for our next steps together.

  • Therapy is naturally most effective when there is both commitment and consistency. I intentionally maintain a small caseload, I and meet with clients on a weekly basis. When we work together, an appointment time is reserved for you each week.

I am occasionally asked whether we can start on a biweekly cadence, and I have found it ultimately hinders the work - it can often feel like playing catch up, leaves little time for deeper work, and it typically takes much longer to experience progress and relief, so it is not something I offer. If your desire to start with biweekly is due to financial constraints, I’d much rather help you find someone you can meet with on a regular basis so you can get the full support you need.

  • I work best with clients that are naturally curious, emotionally courageous, and willing to  go inward, even when it’s uncomfortable. I welcome clients that are introspective, spiritually curious, and drawn to finding purpose and meaning within the struggles they’ve faced.

  • The answer to this is as unique as you are, and my hope would be that you’re in therapy for as long as it feels nourishing and supportive.

I offer depth work that focuses on helping my clients explore and address the root causes of their distress, rather than on short term coping strategies or behavioral changes, so our work tends to be longer term. How long we meet for is ultimately up to you.

  • Effective January 1, 2022, a ruling went into effect called the “No Surprises Act,” which requires mental health practitioners to provide a “Good Faith Estimate” (GFE) about out-of-network care to any patient who is uninsured or who is insured but does not plan to use their insurance benefits to pay for health care items and/ or services.

The Good Faith Estimate works to show the cost of items and services that are reasonably expected for your mental health care needs for an item or service. The estimate is based on information known at the time the estimate was created. The Good Faith Estimate does not include any unknown or unexpected costs that may arise during treatment.

You are entitled to receive this “Good Faith Estimate” of what the charges could be for psychotherapy services provided to you. While it is not possible for a psychotherapist to know, in advance, how many psychotherapy sessions may be necessary or appropriate for a given person upon the initiation of psychotherapy, this form provides an estimate of the cost of services provided. Your total cost of services will depend upon the number of psychotherapy sessions you attend, your individual circumstances, and the type and amount of services that are provided to you. This estimate is not a contract and does not obligate you to obtain any services from the provider(s) listed, nor does it include any services rendered to you that are not identified here.
